One Nation Under God

I was born into a family of good Christian morality.

Red, white, and blue, and green were always my reality.

I was raised up in a system that told me what to believe,

Patriotic Patriarchal Oligarchy was the ideal to achieve.

They told me: The man who leads us must be a king, not a queen;

That’s the way it’s been since the original thirteen.

Let them work underneath a crystal ceiling, that’s fine—

As long as they don’t breach it, and stay in their God-given line.

This land is your land, this land is my land,

But this land is only ours, since it was made by our father’s hands.

And God has blessed us, and given us the fruits of their labor.

But somehow we forgot that God did not exclude our neighbor.

We build up our fortress; we make our army strong.

God knows that we are the true inhabitants who belong.

It’s always Us versus Them in the race for greater power

But we are always only building a shining ivory tower.

And now, at the age of adulthood, I shall climb the golden rungs

To become the man I was made to be, with pipe smoke in my lungs.

I will make it to the top no matter what the cost

Because everyone knows some money gained is worth a friend or two lost.

I must carry on my father’s tradition in order to keep God in this land.

After all, God’s perfect plan relies on the laws of supply and demand.

If the poor get too much help, the social fabric will rip,

And the checks that hang on the balance will finally tip.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in our Country as it is in heaven—

I only hope heaven is not filled with this much oppression.

We shall not look to other places that lie abroad,

For it is one nation that is under God.
